GET THEM TO SAY WHEN
Every time you delegate a task, make sure that you create a clear, mutually understood expectation of when the task will be completed.
Get the other person involved in setting the due date by saying something such as, “Joan, I need to turn in my entire report Friday at noon. When could you get your part back to me?” When Joan says, “Thursday by noon,” make it a point to write down that time in Joan’s presence.
The fact that Joan says,” Thursday by noon” tells you that she understands she’s taken on a very specific responsibility. By adding the due date to your delegation communication, you will have increased the probability that the assignment will be done, and that it will be done in a timely manner.
